Santina Amato

Inherited Control, Ongoing

Inherited Control explores the tension between dependence and dominance, weight and suspension. Using men’s belts and utilitarian straps to bind or hang biomorphic forms, the series considers how systems of control—both structural and inherited—shape the body and its movements. The hanging sculptures evoke a fragile balance between containment and release, recalling Louise Bourgeois’s suspended forms while situating them within a contemporary, feminist language. Through the use of domestic and gender-coded materials, Amato examines how authority, care, and restraint are embedded within the objects that inhabit our everyday lives.
